Constance Patterson creates a new sense of place by revisiting old familiar landscapes. Her oil paintings deconstruct the topography of the places where she has been, and reconstructs them as new worlds that are more abstract. Remnants of places where she has lived and worked are stitched together to form a new fabric that, like patchwork, contain the juxtaposition of the familiar and the strange.
Her powerful pieces are both otherworldly and very real at the same time. They convey a sense of peacefulness, but also have an underlying edgy quality that creates an aura of mystery. They might be places that you would visit … if only they were real.
