"I live in the high desert of the great basin in the west. This land has always influenced my work in some way. The contrast between the deep space of the western sky and the large open expanse of the terrain seems to always make its way into the work. I try to strike a balance between the formal organization of the work and the incredible luscious and luminescent surfaces that the Encaustic process produces. I avoid intellectual, narrative and literal interpretations of things and attempt to eliminate everything that is not essential in the work."
